I visited the calvinist flyswatter yesterday and I have to confess that of all the egotistical, overly simplistic, farm fertilizer I have had the displeasure to read lately, they win the prize.
They make Dave ( I couldn't state Calvinist Doctrine correctly if my life depended on it ) Hunt look like a Rhodes scholar. I just wish I could find someone to sue to get back the part of my life that I wasted reading their junk.
In other news the Jolly Blogger has been disappointing recently. He has gone gaga over Rick Warren. He finds his popularity with the media heart warming ( Jesus' opinion of worldly popularity was slightly different Luke 6:26 ). This is the same brother ( and he is that ) who didn't think we could blame pastors' for the negative impact that the DaVinci Code had on a lot of Church Members. Who were these people listening to on Sunday mornings ? Casper the friendly Ghost?

For really good reading and usually good links I recommend carla rolfe, teampyro, and James white.
My little Jack Russell doesn't have lymphoma, but she is quite ill! My wife is quite attached to her and is taking this quite hard.

How many emergent church ministers does it take to replace a burnt out light bulb?
None. Lightbulbs belong to the modernist way of doing light. Besides darkness is more authentic anyways.
There were 2 Baptist ministers in this town. One a Calvinist, and the other an Arminian. They both lived at the opposite ends of the town from where their churches were. Each Sunday, morning and evening, they would pass each other on the way to and from their respective churches. Many was the time that they would stop at a donut shop after service and argue theology.
One day the discussion became a little heated. "Calvinsts are heretics", said the arminian. "Arminians practice sloppy agape", said the calvinist. This went on for for hours.
Finally the calvinist stopped, and calmly said, " Look brother. We're never going to agree about this. So, Mr. Caner, why don't you go and worship God in your way, and I'll go worship Him in His! "

The greatest translation of the Bible that I've ever seen is The Word Of God lived out in the life of a Christian.
I love America!
I'm not American, but I remember, with gratitude the sacrifices made by previous generations of Americans, so that my people might live and breath free.

No one who loves freedom, or cares about the global proclamation of the gospel can possibly rejoice at her current troubles. If America goes down, either from the strain of to many committments abroad or a lack of balance at home, freedom may survive in name for a time, but what bears that name will likely bear little resemblance to what it does today.
America can be inconsistent, forgetful, and sometimes too clever for its own good, and its true that there are times when she makes mistakes and her presence in the world becomes something less than an unmixed blessing, but no nation has done more, and still does more for everything we hold dear to our hearts and thank God than America.

To hate and undermine her is to weaken, ( perhaps oneday fatally ) that very shield gives us the security to snipe and laugh at her.

These are difficult times for America, perhaps more difficult than she is likely to admit, which is why that those her know her real worth should cry to God for her.

As Christians we are members of one body and brothers and sisters in one family. She needs our love and our prayers, perhaps now more than ever. As she goes, so go we.
A small apology. I'm an absolute newby when it comes to blogging. I haven't learned how to link or any of the other fancy skills. Once I do, I'll add them as I'm able. Until then Sola Deo Gloria!
There are so many issues facing the Church in North America. Islam, Roman Catholicism, and the cults are all resurgent. Within the Evangelical movement a saucy retread of the old liberalism called " The Emergent Church " has appeared, seeing as its duty the repackaging of heresies of the past in the name of a sullen ( generally foul mouthed) relevance.

These movements are real and they are seriously gaining in strength. Visit the Catholic Church's websites, or Islam's, or any of the Cults. The triumphalism on these sites is astounding.
For them, they see blood in the water. They see the evangelical church fragmenting and losing doctrinal coherence. They see the loss of confidence in the suffiencey of scripture and know that this "Crisis of Authority" has done half the job for them.
But don't worry! The bright lights of the evangelical movement have a plan. Christian Yoga, contemplative prayer and any other pseudospiritual garbage that we can steal and repackage for the consumption of the benighted Christian consumer.
If that doesn't work don't worry the Southern Baptists will demonstrate real priorities by keeping their largely unregenerate church membership ( so long as they don't get drunk). I guess since hell is a liqour free zone they want their unsaved church memebers to get used to it.
Or if that doesn't bring revival the Caner Brothers and Dave Hunt will get a fraticidal war going between Calvinist and Arminian Evangelicals, and if that's still not enough the Amillenialists are doing their level best to get one going with the Dispensationalists.
We have become fools fighting in a burning house while the enemy circles around outside waiting to pick off the survivors.
If it weren't a fullfillment of prophecy, it would be enough to make one sick. ( I Tim 4; 2Tim 3; 2 Thes 2).
As for a real scriptual revival of repentance, faith in our sovereign, triune, heavenly Father and sincere open hearted study of His word, we'll have little of that. It's easier to plow the sand.

This is my third attempt at blogging. On my two previous attempts my blogs disappeared into the ether. Hopefully that won't happen this time. As I am at work and blogging is not a work related activity I'll continue this later!
